In Singam 1, there is a scene where Prakash Raj threatens an old man whose son was settled abroad and that old man commits suicide due to which Prakash raj would have to sign bail at Duraisinga’s village and the whole story starts.
Now imagine that small bit made into a whole film. That’s what Rudra is.
Storyline: The villain gang kills elderly parents whose children settle abroad and usurps their wealth. Hero is working abroad, and the villain gang kills his parents, wife who saw this also gets killed. Hero then hunts the entire gang and smashes them to oblivion
1st Half: nothing of note. Nasser and Poornima are your typical parents of Tamil cinema. Kaali Venkat is the usual hero friend. Pbs is the typical flowerpot role, parents illanga, Poornima will say naanga irukum la, hero says naan iruppen ga, impressed with heroine helping nature, love, 1 song, all the typical scenes you would expect from a masala film. Scenes that have been beaten to death in so many earlier films.
2nd half: The hero finds the truth about the killings and hunts down everyone. Some fight scenes in the first half and most in the second half. Fight chores are a mess, with slow-motion flying scenes, and unwanted and funny-as-shit formations. The stunt master must have been high. The climax is a rehash of the Kanchana climax with a song and the same fight in the temple. Too much redness everywhere just like kanchana.
Music: background score is loud and ear killing. Too loud and bassy. The song by Dharan is good. GVP again does the bare minimum.
Dance: Lawrence’s steps are good, he should choreo more but Pbs is so bad. From the duets of Vaaya Veera and Karuppu Perazhaga where both hero and heroine steps were done so well to this movie duet song where PBS just walks throughout, but honestly, I’ve never seen her dance well in any song before.
Screenplay and dialogue: aala vidunga da ebba. Full cringe punch dialogues and unnecessary shouting everywhere. Lawrence acting like possessed like in the Kanchana series without the ghost element. Big letdown by the director.
Editing: The editor must have vomited when he saw the film. That bad it is. Reminds me of the scene from Aadama Jeichomada where the theater operator vomits after seeing the film trailer. Imagine that trailer as a whole film, that’s Rudra for you.
The film seems like it was made in the 2000s, even then it would have flopped. Worst in Lawrence’s career and the WORST FILM I HAVE EVER WATCHED IN the THEATER. worse than Kanchana 3 and Msks.
